Maitrry P Shah is an internationally acclaimed artist from India, renowned for her contemporary aesthetic and profound expression in painting.She discovered her passion for art at a young age and embarked on a remarkable artistic journey. Maitry’s talent earned her recognition early on, with her winning a “Silver Medal” at the 10th Kanagawa Biennial World Art competition in Japan at the age of twelve.On the national level, Maitry has been honored with thirteen awards, including ten gold medals, two silver medals, and one silver crown.
Our readers would like to know about your academic achievements in creative fields?
I received an honorary doctorate degree from IEMS University due to my exceptional achievements in the field of art. She underwent mentorship under renowned artists Zen Vertan and Ajay Deshpande. I am an alumna of the prestigious Ivy League institutions, IIM Raipur and BITS Pilani.
How was your journey from your initial education to being a recognised professional artist ?
Since childhood, I have been passionate about painting. Despite pursuing a professional degree in Software Engineering from BITS Pilani and an MBA from IIM Raipur, my interest in art has always persisted. My journey in the field of art began early, receiving my first international medal from Japan at the age of 12. Throughout college, I continued to excel in art, winning numerous awards and participating in exhibitions.
This journey has continued, with nearly 30 solo and group shows in India and abroad, including cities such as Gandhinagar, Bangalore, Jaipur, Bhilwara-Rajasthan, Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Noida, Gurgaon, Manipal, Pune, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Mauritius, and Warsaw-Poland.
My most recent solo exhibition took place at the Jehangir Art Gallery in February 2023, where I had the honor of being joined by Mr. Jehangir and his family.

Who was your inspiration to motivate you in the creative field of painting?
Frida Kahlo’s resilience, unique style, and unapologetic self-expression have been a constant source of inspiration for me in the creative field of painting. Her ability to channel personal struggles and emotions into powerful works of art has motivated me to explore my own experiences and perspectives through painting, pushing boundaries and embracing authenticity along the way.
Which is your favourite option to create a painting soft pastels, acrylic, charcoal or mixed media?
My favorite option for creating a painting is definitely mixed media. I find the combination of charcoal, oil, acrylic, ink, and other mediums allows for a rich and dynamic exploration of textures, layers, and techniques
Which is your favourite theme for painting you mostly prefer?
My favorite theme for painting is capturing the depth and complexity of women’s expressions. I am drawn to exploring the myriad emotions, experiences, and stories that women carry within them. Whether it’s portraying strength, vulnerability, resilience, or joy, I find immense inspiration in delving into the layers of emotion and inner life that define the female experience

Which was the biggest exibition you feel proud to be a part of it?
Participating in the solo exhibition at the Jehangir Art Gallery in February 2024 holds a special place in my heart as one of the biggest exhibitions I feel proud to have been a part of.
Who inspired you the most in life?
My deepest inspirations stem from those who exemplify resilience amidst challenges and the profound emotions I have encountered in love and life. They fuel my creativity and shape my perspective with their authenticity and strength.
What is your message for upcoming artists those who want to be the part of exhibitions to present their creative work?
My message is simple: never lose faith in your artistry. Stay dedicated, remain consistent, and remember that art is a journey, not a destination.
You have received multiple awards from different organisations. Which is the biggest award you feel proud of?
Among the various awards I have received, I am particularly proud of the International Award “Silver Medal” in the 10th Kanagawa Biennial World Art Competition from Kanagawa Prefecture Japan in March 1999. This award holds special significance as it recognized my talent and dedication at a young age of 12, marking the beginning of my journey as an artist. It serves as a reminder of my early accomplishments and the passion that has driven me to pursue excellence in the field of art.
