Our readers would like to know about your academic achievements and family support in your education and career?
My academic journey has been a fulfilling exploration of the study related to law, human rights, and social activism. Graduating from a Law background, I embarked on a transformative path that led me to earn a Ph.D. focused on Human Rights and Child Protection from Panjab University, Chandigarh. Alongside, I successfully qualified the UGC-NET, further solidifying my academic prowess.
Throughout my educational voyage, I have actively contributed to academia and societal welfare. My research endeavors have been showcased through numerous publications in esteemed national and international journals, while also presenting scholarly papers at various national and international conferences. Additionally, I have taken on leadership roles, chairing sessions, organizing webinars and seminars aimed at fostering awareness and sensitization on critical social issues.
Beyond academia, my commitment to social change has been evident through active engagement as a volunteer with NGOs and participation in programs aimed at raising societal consciousness on pressing issues. This dedication culminated in the publication of two books: ‘Right to Information: Concept, Law and Practice’ and ‘Role of Non-Governmental Organizations in Protection of Human Rights in India’.
Prior to fully immersing myself in the pursuit of social causes, I served as an Assistant Professor in a Law college, where I imparted knowledge and mentored aspiring legal minds. However, driven by a deeper passion for effecting meaningful change, I made the conscious decision to resign and dedicate myself entirely to addressing societal challenges.
Throughout this journey, the unwavering support of my family has been my cornerstone, providing encouragement and belief in my pursuit of academic excellence and social activism. Their backing has not only fueled my academic achievements but also reinforced my resolve to contribute positively to society, thereby enriching both my educational and personal endeavors.
I owe everything I am today to the unwavering strength and relentless support of my mother Mrs. Parmjeet Kaur. Despite facing numerous hardships being a single parent, she worked tirelessly to raise me, sacrificing her own comforts to ensure I received an education. Her determination and unwavering belief in me propelled me forward, especially during times when support was scarce.
Her sacrifices didn’t end there. Even as I pursued my education and later delved into social work, she stood by my side, providing not just emotional support but also taking care of my daughter, shouldering the responsibilities alongside me. Through every phase of my life, she has been my pillar of strength, steadfast in her resolve to see me succeed. Without her unwavering support and sacrifices, I wouldn’t have achieved what I have today. I am forever grateful for her guidance, her sacrifices, and her unwavering belief in me. She is the epitome of strength and the driving force behind my journey.
In addition to my mother’s unwavering support, my Husband has not only supported my decisions wholeheartedly, but he has also been instrumental in founding Daat Foundation, a charitable trust dedicated to making a positive impact in our community. He never questions my decisions and always respect my autonomy and freedom of thoughts.
Why you chose to devote your time for social service along with big responsibilities of being a mother?
My path into social work wasn’t a conscious choice; rather, it felt like a calling that I couldn’t ignore. From a young age, I found myself deeply affected by the suffering of others—whether it was the struggles of women, the challenges faced by children, or the plight of the elderly. These issues urged me to take action and make a difference.
Initially, I tried to suppress these feelings and focus solely on my education. However, I soon realized that I couldn’t turn a blind eye to the injustices I witnessed. It became clear to me that I had a choice: I could either passively accept the status quo or take a stand and work towards change. I understand that I can’t single-handedly solve every problem or eradicate all forms of suffering. But I firmly believe that every small step I take can make a difference in someone’s life. This conviction became the driving force behind my decision to leave behind my established career and embark on a new journey dedicated to social work.
As a mother, I have gained a deeper understanding of the pain and needs of children. Motherhood isn’t just about giving birth—it’s a transformative journey that strengthens and empowers you. It has equipped me with the empathy, resilience, and determination that is needed to advocate for those who are marginalized and vulnerable.
While the path ahead may be challenging, I am fueled by a sense of purpose and the belief that even the smallest acts of kindness and compassion can ripple outward, creating positive change in the world. My journey into social work is not just a career choice-it’s a commitment to making the world a better place, one life at a time.
Who has been your inspiration for social service?
Throughout my life, I have been fortunate to encounter several inspirational figures who have left a profound impact on my journey. However, two individuals stand out for their enduring influence on my outlook and aspirations.
Bhagat Puran Singh Ji Pingalwara, with his selfless dedication to serving humanity, ignited a flame of altruism within me. His tireless efforts for differently abled persons and care to the destitute exemplify the transformative power of compassion and empathy. His noble deeds have inspired me to strive for selflessness in my own endeavors, guiding me to work tirelessly for the betterment of others without expecting anything in return.
On the other hand, my mother has been a beacon of strength and resilience in the face of adversity. Her ability to find joy and contentment amidst struggles has taught me invaluable lessons about resilience, gratitude, and the importance of maintaining a positive outlook in the face of adversity. Together, Bhagat Puran Singh Ji and my mother embody the qualities of compassion, resilience, and selflessness that I aspire to emulate in my own life. Their stories serve as constant reminders of the transformative power of kindness, perseverance, and unwavering faith in the face of life’s challenges. My daughter also offers insightful advice and providing alternative perspectives on things.

What is the importance of struggle period of your life. How do you accept day to day challenges as a mother and humanitarian?
Struggles are an inevitable part of life, but it’s upon us how we respond those struggling moments to perceive and respond to them that defines our character and resilience. From my early childhood, I encountered numerous challenges and obstacles, but instead of succumbing to despair, I embraced them as opportunities for growth and learning. Each hurdle I faced became a valuable lesson, teaching me resilience, determination, and the importance of maintaining a positive outlook even in the face of adversity. While there were moments of doubt and tears, I refused to let myself be defeated by circumstances beyond my control. Instead, I chose to focus on the silver linings and the lessons embedded within each challenge. I reminded myself that every setback was merely a temporary obstacle, and that with perseverance and faith in myself, I could overcome any obstacle.
It’s crucial to acknowledge our humanity and allow ourselves to experience the full range of emotions that come with adversity. But it’s equally important not to allow those situations to define us or limit our potential. With time, patience, and unwavering determination, I discovered the strength within myself to rise above my struggles and emerge stronger and more resilient than before.
Today, I look back on those challenging times with gratitude, recognizing them as catalysts for personal growth and self-discovery. They have shaped me into the person I am today—someone who faces life’s trials with courage, optimism, and an unwavering belief in the power of perseverance.
As a mother and a humanitarian, finding balance between my familial responsibilities and my commitment to making a positive impact in society has always been paramount to me. While pursuing my career as an assistant professor, I realized that despite my best efforts, I found it increasingly difficult to allocate sufficient time and energy to each aspect of my life without sacrificing the quality of my relationships or my own well-being. The demands of my job and my commitments to social work often seemed to pull me in opposite directions, leaving me torn between my professional aspirations and my desire to be present for my family.
With a heavy heart yet a clear sense of purpose, I made the difficult decision to resign from my position. It was a choice driven by my determination to not let my pursuit of societal change come at the expense of my family’s happiness and stability. Since then, I have dedicated myself wholeheartedly to my role as a mother and to my humanitarian endeavors. Though the journey hasn’t always been easy, but prioritizing the well-being of my family ultimately led me to a greater sense of peace and purpose in my life. Today, I continue to strive for balance between my professional endeavors, social activism, and family commitments, recognizing that by nurturing each aspect of my life, I am better able to contribute positively to the world around me.
You are very confident and focused for your work. What is the force behind your confidence?
The driving force behind my confidence is the profound belief that our efforts can make a tangible difference in the lives of children, potentially preventing them from becoming victim or perpetrator. This conviction serves as a powerful motivator, propelling me forward in my work.
The knowledge that every action we take, no matter how small, has the potential to positively impact a child’s life and it fills me with a sense of purpose and determination. It inspires me to tirelessly advocate for the rights and well-being of children, striving to create a safer and more nurturing world for them to grow and thrive in. With this belief firmly rooted in my heart, I am driven to work tirelessly, knowing that each step we take brings us closer to our goal of protecting and empowering children. It is this unwavering commitment to making a difference that fuels my confidence and propels me forward in my efforts.
How do you meet the financial needs for your humanitarian work?
At this moment, all the financial requirements for this cause are being met through my personal savings and the generous financial support of my family. We haven’t received any assistance from external sources.
