Skin is the biggest and outermost organ of the body made of water, protein, fats and minerals. It protects the internal vital organs from germs and regulates body temperature. In broad spectrum, it has three layers. The epidermis, the outermost layer of skin, provides a waterproof barrier and creates our skin tone. The dermis, beneath the epidermis, contains tough connective tissue, hair follicles, and sweat glands. The deeper subcutaneous tissue (hypodermis) is made of fat and connective tissue.
Skin has protective role. Then why there are skin disorders?
Why can’t it protect itself?
Homeopathic perceptive:
Skin serve as a guardian of vital organs in body. Whenever, there is a major pathology is supposed to happen in the internal organs, body shows symptoms like itching, eruptions and burning on the skin. When we try to suppress any skin eruption with the help of medicine or ointments, they disappear for a while and will come back soon as we leave the treatment or body become resistant to the medicine. Our immunity does not allow any type of dirt to remain inside the body, it throws it out. We suppress, immunity repress. This is how the skin disorders become repetitive and chronic. Patient usually take 5-10 years treatment for skin diseases with minimal recovery. If these eruptions, either eczema or psoriasis is suppressed with strong medication, the disease will manifest in other system of body in the form of other disorder.
Homeopathy says, If we need a proper and permanent recovery in skin disorders, treat the patient; not his symptoms. Address the immunity of patient not the skin. Addressing the superficial layer, the skin, in dealing with psoriasis or eczema or pimples, is not sufficient. The ‘root cause’ behind this manifestation needs to be addressed. Homoeopathic medicines are not prescribed according to the name of the disease but on the unique way, the person experiences his disease.
Let us see few cases to understand homeopathic approach in skin disorders.
A 21 years male visited me with a complaint of psoriasis that started 10 years ago. Big patches were observable on his abdomen, elbow joints and legs. No burning. He has been obese since childhood. He has taken steroids and cortisones for psoriasis. He suffered from cerebral palsy at birth. He is left-handed. He said the right side of his body is weak. In childhood, he frequently visited a pediatrician for cough, cold and fever. He started talking at the age of 2 years. He is quite introverted and never asks for anything. Academically good and has a Masters in mathematics. He was not too much concerned about the psoriasis. In Homeopathy, we always consider physical, mental and emotional symptoms of patient to select best suitable remedy. History of mother during pregnancy contribute a lot in speedy recovery and eradication of disease from the system.
H/O Mother: She induced abortion in first pregnancy as it took place with copper IUD. Patient is her second child. At third pregnancy, she delivered a child who died in 2 days. She could never conceive later on. Patient is the single child. On observation, I found severe gynecomastia in the person. The mother had a copper IUD a few years before this pregnancy; but still her vitality must have some foreign imprints during her second conception. This child grew with that. Diseases are not only caused by substances like bacteria, viruses, fungi, toxic matters, etc., as is the main belief in conventional medicine. An energetic field can cause an imprint in a person. When born, his vital energy carried this imprint. He failed in learning to talk at an appropriate age. As his parents were obese, he was also. In this case, disturbances happened at the endocrine level. Bell’s palsy is characterized by muscle weakness that causes one-half of the face to droop. In cases of congenital Bell’s palsy, the reason can be any injury during labor or, the imprint of stress on the mother’s immune system can damage the seventh cranial nerve, which cause facial paralysis. I considered the physical and mental totality for medicine selection and made a map of journey of Disease. Bell’s palsy-Delayed speech-Obesity- Gynecomastia –Psoriasis. Homeopathic medicine selected not only to cover the present complaint of skin disease but also to remove the toxic imprints from patient’s immunity. Within three months, the patient reported 70% recovery in skin issue and there was significant reduction in weight.
Few months back, I took a case of 68 years male from New Zealand, who had psoriasis since 50 years. He underwent various treatments with partial recovery. When he approached me, I observed his hasty speech and frowning on forehead. He is introverted, angry and anxious person. His psoriatic eruptions are Itchy, feels like want to put it under hot water and keep it there. Feels better in the sun and by uncovering the body. Does not itch in bed. Topical ointment stops the itch but they never clear it up. Very dry skin, small dandruff like flakes. Has to moisturize after a shower. There are scales in his ear.
In Homeopathy, we consider the physical and mental totality along with semiotic observation. His hasty speech and frowning were objective symptoms, which helped me in medicine selection.
Within two months, there was significant recovery. His wife was so surprised with the result of medicine. She shared his photographs before and after homeopathic treatment.
Conclusion: Homeopathy is based on the law of individualization. Every person is unique. Although having same physical symptoms in psoriasis, every patient has different mindset, which helps in selection of right remedy. In first case, a patient approached me for psoriasis and got results in obesity too. How? Because Homeopathy does not treat symptoms temporarily but it acts on immunity and provides permanent relief. I could not relieve his gynecomastia. However, consideration of this symptom in his totality, made me select the correct remedy.
