The Somaiya Institute of Research and Consultancy (SIRC) is a research center at Somaiya Vidyavihar University in Mumbai, India. The institute was established to support and promote research and innovation in various fields, including engineering, management, science, and humanities.
Somaiya Vidyavihar’s Interventions:
1. Centre for Sustainable Development & Climate Action -The mission is to create a research and innovation ecology on the SVU campus that seeks to address some of the grand sustainability challenges associated with food, water, energy, carbon, and climate in a holistic manner.
2. Research Promotion & Communication-Guidance and preparation of lay-summary, content development for research website / brochure / flyer / presentations for research activities, editing manuscripts, supervision of proposal submissions to funding agencies, coordinating expert/guest talks, research programmes and activities, assistance for IPR filing.
3. Lab space for Researchers-Infrastructure, facilities and support team to guide and assist in research projects under various disciplines.
4. Ph.D. Coordination Centre-SIRAC is responsible for coordinating Ph.D. activities of the Somaiya Vidyavihar University.SIRAC is a Research Centre for Ph.D. programmes in Life Sciences and Biotechnology.
On the 25th of November, the Chairman of the Board of Shimadzu Corporation, Japan – Dr. Teruhisa Ueda visited Somaiya Vidyavihar University on the occasion of signing an MoU with Somaiya University. The objective of the MoU signing was to establish and maintain an Advanced Analytical Instrumentation Facility (AAIF) named as, ‘Shimadzu – Somaiya Vidyavihar Centre of Excellence in Analytical and Measurement Sciences’. The new centre is set to bring about academic enrichment and development of students and the industry.
As the Shimadzu Corporation and Somaiya Vidyavihar University (SVU) jointly work, they will be focusing on applied research and new method development in the areas of sustainable materials, green energy and bio-fuels. Another aim is to publish the research data on national forums and utilize the research publication for the mutual benefit of the industry and both the parties. The centre will enable SVU to do advanced research and analysis using state-of-the-art analytical and measuring instruments to make meaningful contributions with science in the World.
